Amidst these renovated halls and fresh paint, a ghastly presence roams, distraught that The Strand has been revived.  As it traverses the deathly silent theater, the damp air becomes saturated. The floors creek and the old projectors flicker and come to life. The spectre of The Strand is in our midst!

At least that’s what WE think should happen!  Every theater has to have a ghost, but as far as we know, we don’t have one.  That’s where YOU come in.  If you’re in grade 7 thru 12, we want YOU to create a legend of a ghost that haunts The Strand.

Be Fanciful!  Be Frightful! Be Brief!  Tell Us in 500 Words or less.  Enter as often as you like, but a $5  Entry Fee must accompany each submission.

One winner will be chosen from all entries and   receive a Northern Nightmares Prize Pack.  PLUS, Your “Ghost” will be unveiled during The Northern Nightmares Halloween Festival.  Other cool prizes are in store for runners up and even the teacher of the winning entrant.  Submission deadline is Friday, October 7th, 2011

Ghost of The Strand Creative Writing Contest Official Rules

Students and children that would be in grade 7 through 12 are encouraged to enter the “Ghost of The Strand” creative writing contest. Entries will be judged on creativity, descriptive imagery and proper use of language. Two important features to be judged will be a strong physical description of the ghost and a compelling story.

Entry should be 500 words or less and may be typed or handwritten. Neatness counts. Entrants may use the space provided once the online registration and entry fee is made.  Please include your name, address, and phone number at the top of the space provided..

All entries must be received by October 7th, 2011and be accompanied by your PayPal $5.00 Entry Fee. Writers may enter as often as they wish, but each individual online submission must be accompanied by the entry fee. You will find the PayPal button at the bottom of the page. Please remember that all PayPal  payments will be paid to the "Strand Theater Initiative".  Any submissions without the online PayPal fee will not be considered. 

One winner will be selected from all entries and receive a “Northern Nightmares” Prize Pack including a T-Shirt and Ball Cap courtesy of The Strand Theater Initiative. Gift Cards and additional prizes TBD

The decision of our Volunteer Judge is final. All entries for “The Ghost of The Strand” writing contest become the property of The Strand Theater Initiative and will not be returned. The Strand Theater Initiative becomes the sole owner of the names, descriptions and images submitted in relation to the contest and will have exclusive discretion over their use for this and/or any promotion, campaign or other use it may consider. By submitting an entry, writer agrees to waive all rights to any royalties, usage fees or any other compensation related to the submission.
